Grand Valley Hikers

The Grand Valley Hikers, an informal group of Battlement Mesa and Parachute adults who enjoy good fellowship and outdoor activities, organizes a variety of  outdoor events including hiking, camping, cross-country skiing and snow showing.

Hiking
Between April and November, Grand Valley Hikers organizes weekly hikes in the area.  During the spring and fall when temperatures are cooler at lower elevations hiking trips are planned for the desert and canyonland areas of western Colorado and eastern Utah.  In the hot summer months hiking trips visit the higher elevation, mountainous areas of western Colorado.

Camping
Three combination hiking and camping trips are planned each year.  Typically these trips visit one of the region's scenic areas and have included excursions to Leadville, Colorado, Moab, Utah, and Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
During the winter season, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trips to nearby Grand Mesa occur every Thursday.

In order to join an activity, plan to meet at 8:15 AM on the 3rd parking level in the Battlement Mesa Activity Center for an 8:30 AM departure (9:00 AM in the winter).  Car pooling is encouraged.  Volunteers organize all activities so if you have a favorite hiking, camping, cross-country or snowshoeing destination and are willing to help coordinate a trip, contact the current coordinator, Harry Bennett at 970.285.9437.  Hikers, skiers and shoeshoers of all levels are welcome.
