KSUN Community Radio Announces Frequency Change and New Format

KSUN Community Radio: Join us at our new frequency – 101.1 FM

BATTLEMENT MESA, Colorado. ~ Big changes are underway for the Battlement Mesa based, KSUN Community Radio, 103.9 LP FM.

Organized in the early 2000’s, KSUN Community Radio, Inc., a Colorado non-profit corporation, began broadcasting as a low-power FM radio station on December 11, 2002 on 101.1 FM but due to FCC regulations and other factors, KSUN Community Radio, which utilized the call letters, KSBP, was required to switch to 103.9 FM in 2007.   Within a few days, KSUN Community Radio will return to its original 101.1 position on the FM dial.

As a low-power, 100 watt FM station KSUN Community Radio’s varied programming of music and general interest programs was only able to reach the residents of Battlement Mesa, Parachute and nearby residents.  Effective at 8 AM, June 27, 2013 the KSBP low-power FM signal will cease broadcasting.  Within a few days, KSUN Community Radio, Inc. will begin broadcasting on its original 101.1 position on the FM dial and will become KDBN, Energy 101.1 radio serving the Grand Valley.

On July 1, 2013, KSUN Community Radio will acquire the KDBN license from Townsquare Media and plans to be on the air, at their original 101.1 FM frequency as soon as some upgraded equipment can be installed and tested.  KDBN will follow a Classic Rock format complimented by some of the local programming and public interest programs that were enjoyed by listeners of 103.9.  The frequency change, and new station format is a significant departure from the past but the big news is that the new station will be a commercial station accepting advertising.

KSUN Community Radio, Inc. will continue to be a 501(c)3, non-profit entity providing quality programming which has been selected based upon input from our members and the communities that we serve.

When asked why KSUN’s board decided to make the changes, Mary Lee Mohrlang, board president stated, “During the past thirteen years, KSUN has served the Battlement Mesa, Parachute and nearby area with quality programming, including eight weekly locally generated programs.  In addition, KSUN broadcasts all of the local Grand Valley High School football and basketball games.  We want to continue to serve our local listeners, but by moving to the 101.1 FM frequency and the ability to broadcast at up to 3,000 watts we will be able to reach and serve many more listeners in the Grand Valley.  We are excited about the change and look forward to becoming the ‘station of choice’ in the Grand Valley.”
